December 15, 2001:
Yup, it's still moving. Thanks to the amazingly consistent contributions
of John Stiles, and a little help from some new guys, the script translation
has reached 40%! (trumpets blare)
Following the end of this fall semester which for me is next week, the
logistics of getting some of this stuff back into the ROM will be looked at.
I'm not quite sure how well it will go, but I'll be sure to report any
successes or failures.
Keep in mind, however, that the script is at 40%, NOT 100%. We've still got
a long way to go, folks... If you know Japanese, e-mail me and help out.
November 4, 2001:
Currently script translation is at 26.5%, 250k translated, 700k to go. Things are moving at a much
quicker pace than they were this summer. I added a Tokimemo Message Board
to J2e's message boards. I imported the script translation progress into
Excel, so now there's a nice Web page
showing the status, so check it out.
Also, I'd like to announce that with my most recent script chunk translated,
I have now personally translated more script than any other translator who worked
or is working on the project, approximately 61k. Go me!@$@#
As always, we could always use translation help, so if you've got the skills,
let me know and I can hook you up!

Woo hoo! Two updates in the same month!
Consider yourselves lucky!
Anyway, here's the scoop. As noted on the Official Progress text file,
the script translation is officially at the 18% mark. However, what's even
more amazing than the fact that more has been translated in eight days
than in the previous three months is the fact that I, necrosaro, have
officially signed myself up as a translator for the project as well.
Of course, being someone with very little free time and only one and a half
years of formal Japanese language instruction, I'm not as helpful as anyone
who really knows the language, but hopefully I'll now be able to keep
the project moving during its slumps.
Well, that's all the news for now!
October 20, 2001:
It's time for another 'I'm not dead!' post. Contrary to popular belief, this
project is still **OPEN**. Yes, it's been over four months since the last
update, but there's a simple explanation: Not much has happened on the
translation side of this project since June. So this is an update just to allay
the fears of those who thought that I had abandoned the project, to fend off the
emails I receive asking whether the project is still alive, and to hopefully
find a translator or two out there willing to help translate what's remaining of
the script.
Since June, the total amount of translated text I've received has moved from
136k, or 14%, to 158k, or about 16.5%. See what I mean that there's nothing much
to report? Basically, I'm still waiting for a translator with enough time
willing to spend on this project that can handle a significant portion of this
script, because at this pace it isn't going anywhere. None of the script editing
or formatting that I mentioned back in June can occur unless the script gets
translated, so don't bother offering any help at this time, unless it's with
script translation.
Something else that might be worth mentioning: I'm working with Tomato, the
translator of the Lagrange Point script and numerous other projects, on a new
format for video game translations which would rely on a standardized file
format that would be loaded by an emulator at run-time. The resulting
translation wouldn't be playable on a copier, only on emulators that supported
the file format. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions regarding

or SNES emulator author would like to do us a big favor and work with us on
developing this format, send me an
email and I would greatly appreciate it!
June 10, 2001:
My mailbox is getting more and more emails asking if this project is still
alive, so I guess I should make an update.
I've been in contact with a few translators, and thanks to the great efforts
of a few people we've moved the total translated text to 136k, or 14%.
We still have a long way to go!
I've restructured the way I'm going to be sending people scripts to translate
so that it'll be easier to keep track of. I'll also put the list online for
people who are eager for status on this project to check once in a while.
I might convert it to HTML soon, but for now here's a
text file for you to look
at.
Finally, I've coded a script inserter that seems to work, but I've discovered
two things I need to work on. First, I'm going to need to compress the English
text to 35% of its current size to fit it in the ROM, or I'll have to expand
the ROM as a last resort. Second, I'm going to have to modify the VWF code a
bit to make it work with some of the text that shows up instantly (not one
character at a time like most of the spoken text). That shouldn't be too
hard.
Also, I could use some interested people with a lot of free time on their
hands to help me out with some of the text formatting and script editing for
this project and a few other projects (Mystic Ark, Lagrange Point, Madou
Monogatari). I just don't have the time or motivation to work on script
editing for all of these at once, and for a few of them that's the main
barrier from them seeing a release. Email me at

March 27, 2001:
The translation is moving along at a good pace. There are currently ten
translators who are working on translating sections of script. So far, 10%
of the entire script has been translated, and 30% total script has been
assigned to translators who are working on it.
Also, I have some good hacking news. After many months of hard work, I finally
perfected my Variable Width font routine. Right now I think I'll go with the
English font that's already in the game because it's a thick, detailed font
and looks good in the high-resolution mode. Let me know what you think.

February 19, 2001:
Project status update:
The project is still moving. I've received tremendous support regarding
this project, so instead of going with one or two translators, I've sent
chunks of script out to anyone offering help, with hopes that some of them
will come through. So far, I've sent out chunks of Megumi, Yuina, Mira,
Kiyokawa, Rei and Yoshio scripts, as well as the entire script to three
people. So far the small Miharu section and the first block of misc. text
have been translated and sent back to me, and I've been told by the Megumi
and Mira translators that progress on their script is going well.
There's still a very long way to go. But no matter how infrequent the updates,
this project won't die.
August
22, 2000:
Translation
is now in progress. So far, three translators have stepped up to handle
the massive script. The dialogue for Shiori, Mio, Saki, Miharu and the
first block of misc. text have already been assigned. However, there is
still a very long way to go.
On
the hacking side, I have toyed around with the text output system in hopes
of adding a variable width font. So far, no success, but I will definitely
get something to work before the text translation is finished.
July
2, 2000:
Second
non-names script dump created, things look good. After a tough decision,
I will not upload the entire scripts but will provide some samples so people
interested will at least be able to see what the dumps are like.
June
29, 2000:
Page
created, scripts not uploaded yet. First (sequential) script still needs
touchups, second (nonsequential) script needs to be created. Basically
we need some translators to get this project rolling. Otherwise, I will
just add sections on the different characters to this site.
